Obituary of Thomas J. Spencer

Thomas J. “Joe” Spencer, 69, of 14011 S. Goodwill Rd. Titusville, died Saturday afternoon August 31, 2013 at St. Vincent Health Center in Erie. Joe was born on June 25, 1944 in Erie, a son of the late Jesse Thomas Johnson and Martha Mercer Johnson. He was married to Viola Grant on June 25, 1966 in Union City. Joe had attended Colestock High School in Titusville. He was a graduate of cosmetology school located in Erie. He had been employed as a boiler mechanic for the Boilermakers Union Local 744 in Cleveland, OH. He had worked with them since 1968 until his retirement in 2001. Joe enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his pet dog “Bichon”. Joe is survived by his wife of Titusville; four children, Cindy Spencer of Titusville, Tom C. Spencer of Erie, Ken Spencer of Canonsburg, and Michelle Reed and husband Gary of Pleasantville; 10 grandchildren, Justin, Denise, Nina, T.J., Gabbi, Jillian, Joey, Cortney, Noodle, and Magenta; a great grandson, Gabe; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lynette Spencer; an infant brother, Martin; and an infant sister, Sandra. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Wednesday from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at which time the funeral service will be conducted with Mr. Gordon Turk, officiating. The family asks that memorials be made to any local chapter of the Humane Society.
