Obituary of Dorothy B. Hipwell
Mrs. Dorothy Bodamer Hipwell, formerly of 116 W. Spruce St., Titusville, died Saturday November 2, at the Titusville Golden LivingCenter.
Dorothy was born on May 18, 1914 in Titusville to the late Archie and Alma Peitler Bodamer. She married Adrian F. Hipwell on October 19, 1934 at the First Presbyterian Church in Titusville. He preceded her in on August 2, 1993.
Mrs. Hipwell attended Titusville schools and was a graduate of Colestock High School class of 1932.
Dorothy worked at W.J. Grant store and at Goldstein’s store. She then worked as the executive secretary of the Titusville Presbyterian Church until her retirement in 1984.
Mrs. Hipwell was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was ordained and installed as an elder of the church in 1985 and re-elected in 1994. She was ordained and installed as a deacon of the church in 2000. Dorothy always enjoyed working with young people, was a Sunday school teacher and was active in vacation Bible school. She also served as a Cub Scout Den mother, leader of Brownie Scouts and Girl Scouts.
She devoted many hours to volunteer work, having served on the Advisory Council of R.S.V.P., Club Boards of Hospital Auxiliary and Woman’s Club and worked with the Red Cross. Dorothy was an avid reader and loved gardening.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Ronald James Hipwell and wife Barbra of Anaheim, CA; three grandchildren, Ronald J. Hipwell, Jr. and wife Terri, of Placentia, CA, Tammy Johnson of Corona, CA, Rodney S. Hipwell of Angier, NC, Richard A. Hipwell and wife Lauri of St. Petersburg, Florida; and Laura Hipwell of Titusville; five great grandchildren, Connor Hipwell, Sydnie Johnson and Hunter Johnson of California, and Tell Hansen and Case Peterson of Titusville; and several loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a son, Richard Adrian “Rick” Hipwell; two daughters, Susan Kay Hipwell, and infant Sally Lou Hipwell; and a sister Marjorie Bodamer Murphy.
No calling hours will be observed but friends and family may attend a memorial service at a later date.
