Obituary of Maxine Jones
Maxine N. Jones, 78, of Titusville died Saturday morning October 3, 2009 at the home of her daughter. She was surrounded by family and passed peacefully. Anna Maxine Nelson was born October 21, 1930 in Kellettville, PA. She was the eldest daughter of the late Floyd G. and Annette Scott Nelson. She married W.C. “Brud” Jones on September 9, 1953 in Titusville.
Maxine graduated from the Titusville High School in 1948. She went on to get her degree from the Clearfield School of Nursing. Her nursing career as an RN began in Philadelphia, PA. She then returned to Titusville and worked at the Titusville Hospital for over 25 years. At the time of her retirement in 1978, Maxine was the Assistant Director of Nursing and the In-Service Coordinator. She was active in many community organizations over the years including the Titusville Service League, Titusville Country Club, March of Dimes and Red Cross. Maxine was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She loved to play cards, golf, read and travel.
In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by one sister, Betty L. Curry and brothers and sisters-in-law David and Joanne Jones, and Philip and Clara Jones.
She is survived by her husband Brud, a son Jeffrey N. Jones and wife Joanie of Titusville, and daughter Jennifer J. Herring and husband Dale “Scooter” of Erie, and three grandchildren Brandon M. and Christian G. Herring and Sarah E. Jones. One sister Agnes I. Schall and husband Jack of Greensboro, NC, brothers-in-law Charles Curry, and Hugh Jones and his wife Peg and sister-in-law Esther Jones. Maxine is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends will be received at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00 AM with Dr. Barry E. Cressman, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Titusville, the Titusville Area Hospital or the Great Lakes Hospice of Erie, PA.
