Obituary of Ellen L. Pinkerton

Ellen L. Pinkerton, 77, formerly of Guys Mills, PA, died at 11:52 AM Monday, November 25, 2013 at Kimball, Nebraska. Ellen was born on October 13, 1936 in Titusville, a daughter of the late Frank and Isabelle Rigby Christy. She was married to Harold Pinkerton, Sr. on November 19, 1961 at Tryon, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 2012. Ellen was a graduate of Colestock High School, class of 1955 and a graduate of God’s Bible School in Cincinnati, OH in 1959 earning her bachelor’s degree in theology. She had also received a correspondence degree from the Lincoln School of Nursing. Ellen had worked as a secretary at the Brainard Indian School in Hot Springs, SD where she met her husband who was working in the maintenance department. Following her husband’s surgery for cancer in 1978, she worked as a nurses aid and cook for 12 years at the former Presbyterian Home in Titusville. Ellen was a member of the Evangelistic Tabernacle in Cooperstown. Her hobbies included poetry, painting, crocheting and drawing. She was known for her cake decorating and baked breads and donuts. She was also known for her crocheting and once made a green and white table cover that she sent to President Bush at the White House, for which she was sent a letter thanking her for it and that it was on display at the White House. She also made several winter hats and sent them to Boys Town, USA; some overseas to needy children; and some to Indian Reservation children. She was the best mother anyone could ever have. She taught all her children to cook from scratch and a very young age. Mrs. Pinkerton is survived by three sons, Harold J. Pinkerton, Jr. and wife Regina of Kinsman, OH, Stephen E. Pinkerton and wife Carin of Kimball, NE, and Daniel P. Pinkerton and wife Wilma of Charlotte, NC; two daughters, Esther R. Warren and husband William of Guys Mills and Susan E. Carl of Titusville; 12 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; four sisters, Wanda Williams and husband Wiley of Kansas, June Hull of Titusville, Mary Gordon and husband Robert of Kansas, and Alice Rigby and husband William of Titusville; a brother, David Christy; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Jane Pinkerton; and a brother, Ray Christy. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Wednesday, Dec. 4th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and attend the funeral service there on Thursday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Andy Cooley, officiating. Interment will be in Stewart’s Run Cemetery.
