Obituary of Michael R. Hicks

Mr. Michael R. “Mike” Hicks, Sr., 55, of 38857 Chester Ridge Rd., Centerville died at 9:49 PM on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at his home. Mr. Hicks was born on October 31, 1954 at Titusville to Raymond C. Hicks and the late Barbara Ann Burns Hicks. He married Mary Messina on October 28, 1972 in Rome Twp. He attended Titusville area schools. Mr. Hicks was formerly employed as a machinist with Cooper Industries in Corry for 15 years. He then started Mike’s Custom Sawing of which he was the owner and operator prior to his illness. He was a member of the Rometown Community Church, a life member of the North American Hunting Club, National Rifle Assoc., and Bass Masters. Mike was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also a handyman and took pride in helping his family and friends with projects and was loved by all. He was also an avid Steelers fan with Jerome Bettis being his favorite former player and a Jeff Gordon fan. He liked listening to Country music especially Reba McIntyre and Blue Grass music. He is survived by his wife Mary Hicks of Centerville; his father, Raymond C. Hicks of Spartansburg; three children, Michael Hicks, Jr. of Centerville, Stephanie Drusko and husband Christopher of Meadville, Jennifer Erickson and husband Eric of Cameron, NC; 10 grandchildren, Elizabeth Drusko, Erica Erickson, Tyler Hicks, Carman Drusko, Abigail Drusko, Jesse Drusko, Alyssa Drusko, Eric Erickson, Courtney Erickson, Kayla Erickson; a brother, Timothy J. Hicks, Sr of Spartansburg; 3 sisters, Judy Messina and husband Samuel W. of Spartansburg, Cynthia Hensley and husband Rick of Lincolnton, NC, Darlene Stevens and husband Pal of Spartansburg; an aunt, Ingrid Burns of Titusville; 2 uncles, Harlan Hicks of Pleasantville, Arthur Hicks of Spartansburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Further visitation will be on Friday at the Rometown Community Church from 10 to 11 AM with the service to follow conducted by Pastor Timothy Harger of the church, officiating.
