Obituary of Marie A. Koon
Marie A. Koon, 74, of Titusville, died Wednesday morning, January 15, 2014 at her home following a brief illness.
Marie was born on May 15, 1939 in Titusville to the late Wilbur and Helen Patterson Walls.
She graduated from Townville High School, Class of 1957, and attended the Hamot School of Nursing, then graduated from the LPN program at Williamsport Area Community College in 1977. Marie also served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1960 at Ft. Meade, MD.
Marie was a member of the Breedtown Baptist Church and the Titusville VFW Bruce Shorts Post #5958 Auxiliary. She was an avid bingo player, loved to travel with her husband, and enjoyed her family.
Marie married Lawrence D. Koon, Sr. on August 3, 1974; a union of 32 years that was broken on May 13, 1996 when Lawrence passed away.
She is survived by two daughters, Melanie J. Ryder & husband Brian of Montgomery, PA, and JoAnna Ryder & husband Dale of Elizabethtown, PA; five grandchildren, Eric, James, Scott, and Julie Ryder of Montgomery, PA, and Daniel Ryder of Erie; four step-daughters, Mary Jane Busch & husband Glen of New Alexandria, PA, Elaine Hlopick & husband James of Crossingville, PA, Nancy Barto & husband David of Juno, AK, and Donna Williams of Shawboro, NC; one step-son, Lawrence D. Koon, Jr. & wife Ann of Jersey Shore, PA, a sister, Pam Holcomb & husband Robert of Titusville; two special grandchildren, Jacob & Jeremy Parsons; seventeen step-grandchildren; eleven step-great-grandchildren; and several aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence “Larry” Koon, Sr., a son, Joseph John Fife, Jr.; two brothers, W. Roy Walls, Jr. and Grant I. Walls; and a granddaughter, Cassandra Lynn Ryder.
Friends may call at the Breedtown Baptist Church on Saturday from 11 AM to 1 PM and attend the funeral service following visitation hours on Saturday at 1:00 PM at the church with Rev. Eric Reamer, pastor of Oil City Free Christian Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Cherrytree Twp., Venango Co.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Breedtown Baptist Church, 2037 Cherrytree Road, Titusville, PA 16354, or the Chapmanville Volunteer Fire Department, 206 Noel Road, Titusville, PA 16354.
