Obituary of Staff Sgt. Andrew M. Bavas
Andy “Mandrew” Bavas, 32, formerly of Hydetown, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2014 at Forbes Hospice in Pittsburgh following an extended illness.
Andy was born on November 17, 1981 in Oil City, a son of Marc and Cindy Crawford Bavas.
He was a graduate of Titusville High School, class of 2000 and had studied art and business at Community College of Allegheny County.
Andy was a veteran having served tours in Korea and Iraq with the US Army. He was currently a staff sergeant living in Pittsburgh.
Andy was employed by K. Bennett Properties for the past several years as a project manager.
Andy was a life member of the Bruce Shorts Post No. 5958 VFW. He enjoyed the outdoors and camping. He was an accomplished artist and painter. He enjoyed spending time with his friends. He was active with BMX in Titusville in his earlier years.
Andy is survived by his parents, Marc and Cindy Bavas of Hydetown; his domestic partner of more than four years, Brittney Thieroff of Pittsburgh; his step-grandmother, Janet Crawford of Townville; a brother, Benjamin N. Bavas of Temple, TX; a half-sister, Marcie Hanna of Hydetown; two nieces; one nephew; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by infant twin sisters.
Friends will be received at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM and on Thursday from 1 to 3 PM. A memorial service will be conducted on Thursday at 3:00 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Jeff Sterling, pastor of the Hydetown Baptist Church, officiating.
Full military rites will be conducted through the 458th Engineer Battalion Headquarters Company.
