Obituary of James E. Daley
James E. Daley, 86, of 133 W. Bloss St. Titusville, passed away Sunday evening February 16, 2014 at his residence following a brief illness.
Jim was born on January 14, 1928 in Titusville, a son of the late Joseph and Susan Barker Daley. He was married to Alma M. Lancaster on Sept. 13, 1947 at St. Walburga Church. She preceded him in death on Jan. 16, 2010.
Jim had attended the Titusville schools. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Navy.
Jim was a toolmaker most of his life. He began his machining career at Hillcrest Crankshaft in Titusville and later worked for Vertical Seal in Pleasantville, and Titusville Crankshaft and Machining Company. He was a partner with D & B Machine and Tool from 1970 to 1975. He was next employed at GTE Sylvania from 1975 to 1981. He then was hired as plant manager at Jarecki Industries in Charlotte, NC from 1981 to 1983. He then went to Associated Spring in Corry until 1984, at which time he began working for General Electric in Grove City as a toolmaker until his retirement in 1988.
Jim was a member of St. Walburga Church. He was a life member of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW and a member of the Cleo J. Ross Post 368 American Legion.
Jim enjoyed Canadian hunting and fishing trips with his grandchildren and was proud to have harvested three moose in his lifetime. He loved the outdoors and spending time with his family.
Jim was a very loving and compassionate man who lived his life to the fullest. He was always eager to lend a helping hand to family and friends.
He is survived by three children; Mark Daley and wife Kathryn of Franklin, Christopher Daley of Titusville, and Meredith Farrar and husband Craig of Titusville; five grandchildren, James J. Daley and wife Ruth of Jackson, Michigan, Jason R. Daley and fiancée Tammy Fronzaglia of Franklin, Christopher J. Farrar and wife Jill of Pittsburgh, Jeffrey M. Daley of Jackson, Michigan, and Tricia N. Daley of Franklin; four great grandchildren, Matthew W. Daley, Aaron J. Farrar, Audra Farrar, and Alexander Farrar; and a special nephew Donald Daley of Pleasantville.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank and Frederick Daley, and Joseph “Sonny” Schroeder; and a sister, Doris Schroeder.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 AM at St. Walburga Church with Fr. Walter E. Packard, pastor of the Titusville Catholic Community, as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Catharines Cemetery.
