Obituary of Carl F. Gelo

Mr. Carl F. Gelo, 82, of 1256 Meadville Rd., Titusville (Diamond) died at 5:50 AM on Friday, October 16, 2009 at his residence. Mr. Gelo was born on January 24, 1927 in Cleveland, OH to the late John and Bessie Vassi Gelo. He married Donna Proper on September 6, 1951 in Meadville. He attended school in Meadville. Mr. Gelo was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army. He was stationed in Okinawa and was part of the military police. Mr. Gelo was formerly employed by Struthers Wells Corp. in Titusville, the Talon Corp. of Meadville, and retired from Green Leaf Corp in Saegertown in 1991, where his last position was a supervisor. He attended Diamond Evangelical United Methodist Church. Mr. Gelo loved spending time with his family. He was also and avid Steelers fan. He enjoyed bowling and playing golf. He belonged to the Monday Mt. Hope Golf League, as well as, the Elder Statesmen Golf League. He also spent time woodworking and gardening. He is survived by his wife Donna Gelo of Diamond, three daughters, Georgia Etzel and husband Thomas of Lynchburg, VA, Carla Womer and husband Karl of Townville, Kathleen Vincent and husband Scott of Fairview; 7 grandchildren, Amanda Taylor and husband Eric of Madison Heights, VA, Gabriel Etzel and wife Whitney of Madison Heights, VA, Shawn Womer and wife Julie of Glen Rock, Brian and Daniel Womer of Camp Hill, Katrina Smith and husband Ryan of Erie, Kayla Millet and husband Nate of Erie; 8 great grandchildren, Christian and Colton Taylor, Landon, Ava and Isaac Etzel, Lilly and Haley Womer, and Gianna Smith; one sister, Frances Movesian of St. Louis, MO; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Gelo was preceded in death by a great grandson, Graden Vincent Smith; and one sister, Mary Ann Checots. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Funeral services will be conducted from the Diamond Evangelical United Methodist Church on Monday at 11:00 AM with Rev. John Hall former pastor of the church and Rev. Stephen Tiffany, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment will be in the Diamond Cemetery.
