Obituary of Robert K. Bennett
Mr. Robert K. Bennett, 86, of 12570 State Hwy 8, Titusville passed away at 10:20 AM on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Country Acres Personal Care Home. He had been a patient there for the past few weeks.
Mr. Bennett was born on July 20, 1927, in Titusville to the late William and Beulah Kerr Bennett.
He was a graduate of Titusville High School, class of 1945. He was a veteran of the US Army having served in World War II. He entered the service on August 15, 1945, and served as a military policeman in Germany. Mr. Bennett was honorably discharged on February 15, 1947, at Ft. Dix, NJ with the rank of Private First Class.
Robert was employed for 35 years with the Titusville Post Office and retired in 1985, as the Supervisor.
He was a life member of the First Presbyterian Church in Titusville, a 63 year member of the Titusville Lodge #754 F&A.M., a past high priest of the Aaron Royal Arch and a commander of Rose Criox Commandary Knights Templar, #38.
Mr. Bennett is survived by his wife of 14 years, Therese L’Huillier Kurtic Bennett of Titusville who he married on October 2, 1999; three children, Matthew Bennett and wife Lisa of Mahopac, NY, Mark Bennett and wife Stephanie of Chula Vista, CA, Rebecca Biddle and husband Dan of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren, Clarke Bennett of Mahopac, NY, Joshua Bennett, Jonathan Bennett of Chula Vista, CA; two step-daughters, Crescent Birtciel and husband Sam of Titusville, Darlene Dillemuth and husband Bob of Erie.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marilyn Straite Bennett who he married on October 22, 1949, and who preceded him in death on November 17, 1995; and two sisters, Jane Dawson and Margaret Hatfield.
No calling hours will be observed. A memorial service will be conducted for relatives and friends at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home on Saturday, April 19th at 11:00 AM with Mr. Thomas I. Newcombe, Assistant to the Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Full military rites will be conducted by officers and members of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW and Cleo J. Ross Post 368 American Legion.
Interment will be in Union Cemetery.
