Obituary of Loretta M. Titus
Mrs. Loretta Maxine “Tinky” Steadman Johnson Titus, 84, a resident of the Golden LivingCenter in Titusville died at 8:13 PM on Tuesday, May 6, 2014. She was a former resident of Jamestown, NY, Grand Valley and Titusville.
Mrs. Titus was born on January 19, 1930, in Shamburg to the late Harry and Bertha VanGuilder Steadman.
She was married to Earl “Dick” Titus on December 18, 1970, in Hydetown by Rev. Lloyd Chelton. He preceded her in death on July 12, 1985.
Loretta attended Tryonville and Townville Schools.
She was formerly employed by Worsted Mill at Falconer, NY. She was a substitute postmaster at Tryonville Post Office and had worked at the Tryonville Dairy Bar.
Loretta joined the Tryonville EUB Church on September 17, 1950, and was baptized that day. She was a member of the church choir and a substitute Sunday school teacher. She served as treasurer for the Tryonville Sunday School for one year and secretary of the Youth Fellowship. She most recently attended the Church of Christ in Titusville.
She was a former volunteer for the American Cancer Society in Titusville and sold Avon Products for a few years. She went to New York City twice and once to Cincinnati, Ohio on Avon trips to tour their plants. While she was at New York City she also toured the World Trade Center. Another special event Loretta attended was a weekend retreat at Sandy-Cove near Baltimore, MD.
Loretta resided at the Billie Brown Building in Titusville and was a member of the Friendship Club. She also liked to go outside and watch the fish in the fish pond, enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, watching her TV soap operas, playing cards, writing letters to friends and relatives, playing penny bingo, and spending time with her family and playing with her grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Kevin Johnson and wife Kelly,and Darren Titus both of Titusville; a daughter, Shannan Johnson Wheeling and husband Rick of Guys Mills; two grandchildren, Dawsyn and Walker Wheeling of Guys Mills; a brother, Leon “Yeppy” Steadman; a step-daughter, Karen Maier and husband Gary of Albion, NY; three step-grandchildren, five step great-grandchildren all of NY; and a special friend, Donald Johnson of Grand Valley.
Loretta was preceded in death by a son, Brad D. Johnson; a sister, Joyce I. Bernard, a sister-in-law, Janet Dailey Steadman, and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home on Saturday from 12:00 to 2:00 PM with the service to follow conducted by Pastor James Moore, of the Church of Christ, officiating.
