Obituary of Joseph R. Nosker

Joseph R. Nosker, 85, of Titusville, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014 following a sudden illness. Mr. Nosker was born on September 12, 1928 at Youngsville, PA, a son of the late George J. Nosker, Sr. and Theressa Bunce Nosker. He was married to Mary Jane Weber on Aug. 8, 1955 at Centerville, PA. She preceded him in death on June 2, 2005. He was a graduate of the Pleasantville High School, class of 1946. Mr. Nosker was a veteran of World War II and of the Korean Conflict. He entered the US Army at Pittsburgh on June 4, 1946 and was honorably discharged on Nov. 5, 1947 at Ft. McPherson, GA with the rank of corporal. He immediately reenlisted and was honorably discharged on March 21, 1952. Mr. Nosker had been employed as an electrician at the former Cyclops Specialty Steel Corp. in Titusville for many years until his retirement. He was a life member of the Tidioute VFW Post No. 8803 and of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW in Titusville; and was a member of the Cleo J. Ross Post 368 American Legion in Titusville. “Uncle Joe” owned a cabin near the original family home in Carsonville for many years and hosted many family reunions there. He enjoyed traveling to casinos with his friends, poker being his game of choice. He also enjoyed his many mornings having coffee at the local McDonald’s with friends, and his time spent at the YMCA. One of his hobbies was woodworking and he made many bird feeders, chairs, stools, etc. for his loved ones. He is survived by his girlfriend, Joan “Rusty” Pokay of Oil City; his best friend, Gloria Kutska of Titusville; his sister-in-law, Evelyn Nosker-Bickel of Meadville; his niece, Linda Litzinger and husband John of Meadville; nephews, Wayne Nosker and wife Marie of Meadville, James Morrison and wife Linda of Sugar Grove, and Donald Morrison and wife Eileen of Titusville; and many great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, George James Nosker, Jr.; a sister, Olive “Peg” Morrison; and a nephew, Russell Morrison and his wife Kathleen. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Thursday May 15th from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at which time the funeral service will be conducted. Full military honors will be provided by officers and members of the Titusville VFW and American Legion. Interment will be in Neilltown Cemetery. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Crawford County Humane Society or to the charity of one’s choice.
