Obituary of William E. Franz
William E. “Bill” Franz, Jr., 74 of Cooperstown, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2014 at the Meadville Medical Center.
Bill was born on Sept. 28, 1939 at Oil City, PA, a son of the late William E. and Ruth Alberta Patterson Franz. He was married to Marcia Lett Meyers on June 17, 1961 at Erie, PA.
Bill had attended both Colorado State University and the University of Colorado where he earned his GRI realtor degree.
He was briefly enlisted in the US Navy in the late 1950’s.
Bill was a member of the Plumbers Local #3 in Denver, CO and worked as a plumber for over 35 years. He had also worked as a realtor, homebuilder and land developer, farmed for a brief time, and also did automobile restoration.
He was a member of the Seneca Seventh-Day Adventist Church; a member of the BPO Elks Lodge in Meadville; and a member of the Safari Club International. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He raced cars for a short while in his younger years, both locally, in Colorado, and North Carolina.
Bill is survived by his wife of Cooperstown; four children, Justin Franz and wife Cheryl of Livermore, CO, Leah Tackett and husband Timothy of Edmond, OK, Garrett Franz of Evans, CO, and Denise Marr and husband Tyler of Loveland, CO; four grandchildren, Scott and Kayla Franz, Ashley Tackett, and Levi Marr; two sisters, Barbara Jean McMire of Milton, WA and Judith Underwood and husband Jim of Mukilteo, WA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Thursday from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at which time the funeral service will be conducted with Mr. Russell Mullen of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church officiating.
Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Cherrytree Twp.
The family asks that memorials be made to the Cooperstown Volunteer Fire Dept.
