Obituary of James S. McQueer

Mr. James S. McQueer, 85, of 15208 Bethel Church Rd., Centerville passed away at 8:30 PM on Tuesday, June 17, 2014, in Sierra Vista, AZ. Mr. McQueer was born on April 8, 1929, in Cleveland, OH to the late Bert and Leah Kirkwood McQueer. He married Sara “Sally” Klausman on August 11, 1951, at St. Mary’s, PA. Jim served in the US Army from June of 1947 until his discharge in December of 1948. He was formerly employed by the Titusville Area School District where he taught high school chemistry, physics and nuclear science until his retirement in the early 1990’s. Jim enjoyed hunting and shooting sports most of his life. During his teaching career, Jim taught and adult education class after school hours. His students were adults who wanted help with math and their enthusiastic interest pleased him. He was especially proud to be part of a pilot program involving selected teachers from various school districts. They were to develop a plan for teaching nuclear science in high school. Jim held class before regular school hours each morning. The high point for Jim was being asked to attend a nuclear science conference in Chicago, accompanied by one of his best students. After their son, Robert finished college, Jim and his wife Sally enjoyed traveling. Before and after they both retired from the Titusville School District they had many wonderful experiences with Elderhostel, guided tours, and just hitting the open road by themselves. Jim is survived by his wife Sally McQueer of Titusville and Sierra Vista, AZ; and a son Robert McQueer of Cupertino, CA. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home, 303 N. Washington St., Titusville on Thursday from 12:00 to 2:00 PM with the service to follow conducted by Mrs. Jacqueline Wagner and a few of his close friends assisting in his funeral service. Interment will be in Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Elderhostel Road Scholar or the charity of one’s choice.
