Obituary of Robert R. Boyle

Robert R. Boyle, 88, of Central Towers Titusville died Friday afternoon, July 4, 2014 at the Titusville Area Hospital. Robert was born in Titusville on September 2, 1925 to the late Raymond and Hazel Billig Boyle. Robert graduated from Colestock High School in 1943. The same year he enlisted in the US Navy on the USS Kephart. He was commissioned on January 7, 1944 and departed New York City on March 23, 1944 for escort duty in the Atlantic. On September 30, 1944 the USS Kephart joined the 7th Fleet in route to the Philippines. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He married Sophie Mostowy on March 31, 1946 in Stamford, Connecticut. She preceded him in death on April 21, 2004. Robert retired from the Titusville Dairy after 46 years of employment. Robert was a member of the Hydetown Baptist Church. He was a life member of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW and of the B.P.O. Elks #264. Robert was a former member of the Elder Statesmen Golf League and of the Senior Citizens Bowling League. He enjoyed reading, playing cards, playing bingo, hunting, and fishing. He also enjoyed a good drive on country back roads. Robert is survived by two sons; Scott Boyle and wife Doris of Albion, PA, and Steven Boyle and wife Ruth of Titusville; three daughters; Susan Gafner and husband Gary of Diamond, Terri Boyle of Ann Arbor, MI, and Lisa Turzai and husband Michael of Frisco, TX; nine grandchildren; Kate and Kevin Gafner, Erika Fenstermaker, Kristy Ford, Nathaniel Boyle, Alyssa and Emily Turzai, Christopher and Samantha Boyle; and three great grandchildren; Evan Fenstermaker, Miles and Desianna Ford. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a brother, Bruce Boyle. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home, 303 N. Washington St., Titusville, on Monday, July 7, from noon to 2:00 PM at which time the funeral service will be conducted with Pastor Jeff Sterling officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Pleasantville. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Crawford County, 310 N. Monroe Street, Titusville, PA 16354.
