Obituary of Virginia S. Jewell

Mrs. Virginia S. Jewell, 85, formerly of Black Mountain, NC and most recently of Titusville, died at 11:30 PM, Monday, July 7, 2014, at the Golden LivingCenter in Titusville. She was born on September 3, 1928, in Fair Oaks, PA to the late Hugh and Myrtle Watkins Summers. She married James W. Jewell in June of 1947. He preceded her in death on July 19, 1993. Virginia was a graduate of Baldwin High School class of 1946. She attended Slippery Rock State College for one year. Ginny was a librarian having worked at the Warren County Library and the Black Mountain Library in Asheville, NC. She was a master knitter and seamstress. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, walking, hiking, and playing golf. Ginny was a former member of the Quaker Friends Meeting in Black Mountain, NC. She is survived by her three children, James E. Jewell and wife Jane of Pittsburgh, Anne Jewell Baker and husband Michael of Asheville, NC, and Barbara Jewell Proper and husband Alvin of Titusville; one daughter- in- law, Kyoko Jewell of Dumont, NJ; two nieces raised by Ginny, Amy Summers Smulick of Gibsonia, PA, and Emily Summers Thatcher of Ames, IA; Nine grandchildren, Lissa Creola of Bristol, England, Jamie Creola of Seattle WA, Jesse L. Proper of Columbus, OH, Aaron R. Proper of McCord Air Force Base, WA, Cara M. Holley of McGuire Air Force Base, NJ, Nina Jewell Takahashi, Motomi Jewell, Seiya Jewell and Lumika Jewell all of Dumont, NJ; twelve great grandchildren; a sister, Jean Damasso of Aliquippa, PA and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son Jack N. Jewell and one brother Bruce Summers. No calling hours will be observed.
