Obituary of Anita K. Hendershot
Miss Anita K. Hendershot, 84, formerly of Post Ridge Rd., in Centerville passed away at 2:43 AM on Thursday, July 31, 2014, at the Golden LivingCenter in Titusville. She had been a resident there for the past 2 years.
Anita was born on April 11, 1930, in Union City to the late Ernest and Julia Clickett Hendershot.
She was a graduate of Colestock High School, class of 1948, and Erie Business College.
Anita was formerly employed by General Electric of Erie in the personnel department, with Lovell Manufacturing in Erie, an executive secretary for several Erie attorneys, then with Titusville Crank Shaft, and retired from National Forge in Irvine in the late 1980’s. She returned to work for the U.S. Census Beau for a short time. Anita then spent her time as caregiver for her mother until the time of her death in 1996.
She was a lifetime member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Mageetown. She served as a catechist and lecturer for the parish.
Anita enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling in the U.S. and abroad with family and friends, sewing, and quilting. She especially loved spending time with her family, friends and her many nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her sister, Nancy Prenatt of Centerville; a brother, James Hendershot and his wife Rose of Brookeville, MD; 3 nieces which Anita raised, Theresa Douglas and husband Larry of Little Cooley, Mary Groshner and husband David of Meadville, Margaret Hopkins and husband Stan of Snohomish, WA; 3 additional nieces, Julie Pontius and husband Doug of Erie, Kimberly Reib and husband Edmund of Erie, Cindy Muth and husband Robert of Olney, MD; 6 nephews, Douglas Prenatt of Union City, Tim Prenatt and wife Mary Georgene of Titusville, Ernest Hendershot and companion Linda of Cleveland, Howard Hendershot of Cleveland, James Hendershot and wife Terri of Rockville, MD, John Hendershot and wife Pam of Brookeville, MD; an aunt, Lucille Clickett of Centerville; and many great nieces, nephews, God sons and God daughters.
Anita was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard, Harold and Eugene Hendershot.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Church in Mageetown with Fr. Walter E. Packard as celebrant.
Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Centerville.
