Obituary of Donald J. Pier

Donald J. “Don” Pier, 86, of 414 N. Franklin St. Titusville, passed away Thursday afternoon August 7, 2014, at the Golden Living Center in Titusville. Don was born on September 25, 1927 at Corry, PA, a son of the late Walter and Opal Morris Pier. He was married to Thelma Edwards on July 12, 1953 at the White Oak United Methodist Church. She preceded him in death on February 2, 2013. Don had attended the Corry schools. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the US Army. He entered the service on April 4, 1949 at Corry, PA and was honorably discharged on Dec. 20, 1950 at Camp Atterbury, Indiana with the rank of corporal. Don had been employed as a pumper for Trans Penn Wax for over 24 years until his retirement in 1988. He had also been employed at the former Struthers Wells Corp. and also as a milkman for several years. He was a former member of the Hydetown and Spartansburg Granges. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing softball, woodworking, and carpentry. He is survived by a daughter, Tracie McClintock and husband Randy of Titusville; four grandchildren, Jason Pier and wife Christine of Meadville, Lacey Stokes and husband John of Reno, Charles “CJ” McClintock and Bodey McClintock of Titusville; four great grandchildren; a brother Norman Pier and wife Garnett of Lowville; two sisters, Shirley Dunnewold and husband Al of Cambridge Springs and Twila Mae Johnson of Sugar Grove; a sister-in-law, Nancy Pier of Erie; brother and sister-in-law, Ernest and Margaret Edwards of Titusville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Pier. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Monday from 2:00 to 3:30 with the service to follow conducted by Rev. Glen Van Cise, pastor of the Chapmanville Community Church, officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to the White Oak United Methodist Church 14790 Spring Creek Rd., Titusville, PA 16354.
