Obituary of Marian L. Mitcham
Mrs. Marian L. Mitcham, 72, of 18402 Mercer Rd., Townville passed away at 8:55 PM on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at her home surrounded by her loving family following an illness of several years.
Marian was born on October 26, 1941, in Titusville to the late Cyrus and Jeannette Antill Gilson. She married Robert L. Mitcham on September 8, 1957.
She attended schools in Union City.
Marian was previously employed for over 25 years as a cook at the Frog Pond at Canadohta Lake Park and as a bookkeeper for her brother-in-laws business (Mitcham’s Garage) for decades.
She was a lifetime member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Mageetown where she taught Catechism of several years. She had a great faith which she passed on to her family.
Marian was an avid reader who read thousands of books throughout her lifetime, enjoyed playing bingo, scratch of lottery tickets, listening to Elvis music, playing board games especially trivia games which she usually won, and an enthusiastic NASCAR fan.
She was a wonderful cook always making huge holiday meals for the family. During hunting season she would be up at 4:00 AM cooking breakfast for all the hunters in the family and feed them again later with a big pot of chili and bean soup on the stove.
Marian was a wonderful wife and mother who will be missed by her husband Robert of Townville; three sons, Robert L. Mitcham Jr. and wife Debra of Townville, Garry Mitcham and wife Lynn of Williamsville, NY, Jeff Mitcham and life partner Wayne Tyson of Canadohta Lake; three daughters, Debra Sammons of Townville, Jacqueline Mitcham of Centerville, Caryn Mitcham of Mill Village; 11 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, two brothers, Richard Gilson and wife Marilyn of Corry, Cyrus Gilson and wife Vi of Union City; two sisters, Linda Imsinik and husband John of Fleetwood, PA, Patti Rowland of Canadohta Lake; and a family friend Rose Eggelston who thought of Marian as a second mother.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Durham and Carol Gilson.
No calling hours will be observed. A mass will be celebrated at Mageetown Immaculate Conception Church on Monday at 12:00 noon with Fr. Thomas Suppa, as celebrant.
