Obituary of Richard W. Smith
Richard W Smith, formerly of Titusville, Pennsylvania, died August 31, 2014 at the Rehabilitation & Health Center located in Gahanna, Ohio after a short illness. He was born in Warren, Pennsylvania on January 31, 1937 to Richard and Dorothy Smith, who preceded him in death. Dick, as he was known to his friends and associates, graduated from the Warren High School in 1953 and later graduated from Duquesne University obtaining a degree in pharmacy.
He located in Titusville in 1969 and eventually became the owner of Thompson’s Drug Store, operating it for a number of years until his retirement in 2009. In addition to his drug store Dick was involved in many community activities being the President of the Rotary Club, the Titusville Chamber of Commerce, and the Titusville Area School Board.
Richard Smith is survived by his wife of 53 years, Clare Erickson Smith, two children, Bradley Smith, and his wife Nidhi and their children Ana, Reena, and Neel Smith of Silver Springs, Maryland. As well as a daughter Leslie Smith, and her partner Christopher Coffey and her daughter Sophie Smith- Campbell of Zaleski, Ohio. A son, Scott Smith preceded him in death in 1993. Also surviving are an Uncle William E. Erickson of Pittsburgh and an Aunt Margaret Dennis of Warren, Pennsylvania. Also surviving is a sister-in law and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Tranter of Warren, Pennsylvania
A private committal service will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date with Mr. Thomas Newcombe, Assistant to the pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Titusville, officiating. Memorials can be made to the Titusville Shade Tree Commission or the Benson Memorial Library of Titusville, Pennsylvania.
