Obituary of Lyndon E. Keyes
Lyndon E. Keyes, 100, passed away Thursday morning October 16, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Titusville where he had been a resident for the past several years.
Mr. Keyes was born on November 6, 1913 in Titusville, a son of the late Edgar and Edith Kerr Keyes. He was married to Faye Butcher Hoepfl on Nov. 5, 1976.
Mr. Keyes had been self-employed most of his life as a truck driver. He hauled mine props to Pittsburgh and wood pulp to Erie. After retirement, he shuttled cars from auctions to a local car dealership until he was well into his 80’s.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, traveling, and listening to country music. Over the years he built several of his own homes and camps. Later in life, he loved to pick blueberries, drive the dirt roads of Oil Creek Township, and visit with friends and family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Faye Butcher Hoepfl Keyes of Titusville; a daughter, Evelyn Kennedy of Erie; and several step-children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Rees; an infant son; a son-in-law, Richard Kennedy; a step-daughter, Linda Baron; the following wives, Hazel Foote Keyes, Lavinia Myers Schwab, and Betty Seitz Howard; two brothers, Cedric and Richard Keyes; and a sister, Laura Brickner.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Saturday from 10:00 AM to noon at which time the funeral service will be conducted with Rev. Mark Rusnak of Asera Care Hospice, officiating.
Interment will be in Union Cemetery.
The family asks that memorials be made to Asera Care Hospice 1600 Peninsula Dr. Suite 14 Erie, PA 16505.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to his daughters-in-law, Barb Foote Hoepfl and Susan Hoepfl Wheelock for the love and support they provided to Lyndon in his declining years. Also to thank the staff of the Golden Living Center in Titusville for the care they provided, as well as Asera Care Hospice.
