Obituary of Alice Madden-Baker
Alice Madden-Baker, 74, of Titusville, passed away Friday morning October 17, 2014 at her residence.
Alice was born on September 2, 1940 in Titusville, a daughter of the late Edgar and Anna Foresther Carson. She was married to Noland E. Madden on June 7, 1958 at St. Walburga Church. He preceded her in death on Feb. 19, 2012. She later married David M. Baker on Jan. 25, 2014 at St. Titus Church.
Alice was a graduate of the Pleasantville High School, class of 1958. She attended Clarion College and earned her LPN degree in 1984. She had been employed as a nurse at the former Grandview Health Care and retired in 2004 from the Titusville Area Hospital after 23 years of employment.
She accompanied her husband Noland at various military stations while he served in the US Army for 20 years. During this time they lived at Ft. Knox, KY, Tooele, Utah, Ft. Lewis, WA, Presidio in San Francisco, CA, and Indianhead, MD. They also hosted three exchange students from France and one student from Sweden, and were fortunate to visit them later at their homes near Paris, France and Stockholm, Sweden. She also enjoyed a visit to Ireland during her travels.
Alice was a member of St. Titus Church where she was active in many church groups including the Care and Concern Committee, Bible Study Group, Choir member, and a member of the catholic community most of her life.
She was a member of the Pleasantville Volunteer Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary; a volunteer with Hospice of Crawford County; Treasurer of the Pleasantville High School Alumni Association; member of the Titusville Garden Club; YMCA; Book Club of the YWCA; Pleasantville Book Club; member of the Red Hat Society of Tionesta; and played Mrs. Claus at Ho Ho Ho Nite at the Pleasantville Volunteer Fire Dept.
Alice is survived by her wonderful husband David of Titusville; a son, Aaron Madden and wife Ashley of Centerville; four daughters, Gwen Smith of Elk City, OK, Lorraine Zywiak and husband Mike of Alexandria, VA, Wendy Hamilton and husband James of Hydetown, and Anne Dewey and husband Clyde of Titusville; 10 grandchildren, Jeremy Gwin, David Smith, Levi and Zachry Hamilton, Shalyn Greathouse, Logan Hasbrouck, Devin and Larissa Dewey, Aarolynn and Addyson Madden; 3 great grandchildren, Tayden Smith, Laila and Benett Greathouse; a sister, Catherine Firster and husband Michael of Titusville; a sister-in-law, Patricia Carson of Titusville; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Justin Wakefield; and a brother, Frank Carson.
Friends may call at the Hennes-Garrett Funeral Home 203 E. Main St. Titusville on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM and attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at St. Titus Church with Fr. Walter E. Packard as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Catharines Cemetery.
The family asks that memorials be made to Hospice of Crawford County or to the Titusville Garden Club.
