Obituary of M. Roberta Cowan

M. Roberta “Birdie” Cowan, 90, of 10678 Moss Grove Road Titusville, passed away Thursday evening November 27, 2014 at her residence. Mrs. Cowan was born on September 17, 1924 at Titusville, PA, a daughter of the late Patrick and Rose Rosenberger Welsh. She was previously married to Paul B. Cowan. Birdie was a graduate of the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf in Pittsburgh. She was a member of St. Titus Church. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, doing crafts, and gardening. She embraced the simple life of raising her children and growing her gardens. She was well known for her “Birdie” hugs. Birdie is survived by four children, Robert F. Cowan and wife Faye of Titusville, Linda McCarl and husband John of Townville, Lucy Bement and husband Dale of Centerville, and Rose Mack and husband Craig of Titusville; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 8 step-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Carson Bement; a great granddaughter, Emmy McCarl; a daughter-in-law, Yvonne Cowan; and three sisters, Agnes Birch, Rose Helen Birch, and Catherine Martin. The family will receive friends at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Sunday from 6 to 8 PM at which time a memorial service will be conducted with Fr. Walter E. Packard, pastor of the catholic community of Titusville officiating. Interment will be in St. Catharines Cemetery. The family asks that memorials be made to the Western PA School for the Deaf 300 Swissvale Ave. Pittsburgh, PA 15218; to Southern Care Hospice 1245 Park Ave. Meadville, PA 16335; or to the Townville Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Service Main St. Townville, PA 16360.
