Obituary of Mary Louise Lytle
Mrs. Mary Louise Lytle, 97, of Titusville passed away at 1:36 PM on Friday, December 26, 2014, at Wesbury United Methodist Community in Meadville. She had been a resident there since September.
Mrs. Lytle was born on April 3, 1917, in Titusville to the late Albert Edward and Leona Hedges Whiting. She married Robert H. “Red” Lytle on May 1, 1938, in Meadville. Mr. Lytle preceded her in death on February 18, 1998.
She was a graduate of Colestock High School class 1934, and earned her Bachelor of Arts from Edinboro State Teachers College in 1938.
Mrs. Lytle was formerly employed by Crawford County Schools in Townville where she taught special education, and with the Titusville Area School District for over 20 years in the special education department.
Mary Lou was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ in Titusville, a homemaker when she wasn’t teaching, a former member of the Titusville School Board, and a member of the PA Retired Teachers Assoc.
She enjoyed gardening, collecting music boxes, working with pottery, and even taught ceramic classes while wintering in FL with her husband.
Mrs. Lytle is survived by her 5 children, Cynthia Bailey of Punta Gorda, FL, Sarah Hawk of Titusville, Samuel Lytle and wife Patti of Hershey, Susan Kirk and husband Thomas of Meadville, Kevin Lytle of Titusville; 8 grandchildren, Eric Culp of Germany, Alan Culp of Erie, Alexa Taylor and husband Pastor Phil of Titusville, Amy Wry and husband Jeremie of Dayton, OH, Megan Hardie and husband Brad of Andover, NH, Erin Wells and husband Steve of Meadville, Lisa Wespiser and husband Bryan of Pittsfield, MA, Nicole Kirk and fiancé David Straub of Duquesne; 10 great grandchildren, Christopher, Eve, Sophia, Braden, Hope, Titus, Mason, Talia, Ada, and Macy.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Lytle; a granddaughter, Kirsten Culp; and a brother, Edward Whiting.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville on Tuesday from 3:30 to 4:30 PM with a memorial service to follow conducted by Mrs. Lytle’s grandson-in-law, Pastor Phil Taylor of the Grace Fellowship Church in Titusville, officiating.
Inurnment will be in Breedtown Cemetery.
