Obituary of William D. Kriner

Mr. William D. Kriner, 88, of 122 W. Bloss St. Titusville, died at 11:50 AM Thursday, November 12, 2009 at his residence. Mr. Kriner was born on June 21, 1921 at Dubois, PA, a son of the late Walter and Ruby Clark Kriner. He moved to Titusville in 1937 and was later married to Betty May Loebelenz on April 21, 1943 in Titusville. Mr. Kriner was a graduate of Colestock High School, class of 1939. He had been employed in the metallurgical department at the former Universal Cyclops Specialty Steel Corp in Titusville for over 40 years until his retirement. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army. He entered the service on Dec. 7, 1942 and was honorably discharged on Dec. 8, 1945. He served in the European Theatre and the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Kriner was a member of the former St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. He served as city councilman for 16 years under both the strong mayor and city manager governments where he was in charge of the streets department and incineration department. He was involved with the straightening of Monroe Street near the hospital and development of streets to the White Oak Drive area. His favorite hobby was golf, which as a youth his dream was to be a professional golfer. He was a member of the Elder Statesmen Golf League and of the Three Generation Golf League of Meadville (grandfather, father and son). He enjoyed working in his garden, cultivating his lawn, and was an avid hunter. He is survived by his wife of Titusville; two daughters, Lisa Whitehill and her husband Dan of Clinton, OH, and Susan Wakefield of Norco, CA; 6 grandchildren, Josh Wakefield and his wife Jill of Corona, CA, Trevor Kriner and his fiancée Megan of Meadville, Katie May Kriner of Oil City, Courtney Whitehill and Lauren Whitehill, both of Akron, OH, and Megan Whitehill Condo and husband Mark of Cleveland; 4 great grandchildren, Matthew and Garret Wakefield, and Brenna and Lochlin Condo; a brother-in-law, Watson Pringle of New Castle; a sister-in-law, Miriam Kriner Bailey of Lakeland, FLA; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, William D. “Billy” Kriner, Jr., and W. Scott Kriner; a son-in-law, Alan Wakefield; a brother, Luther M. Kriner; and tow sisters, Marybelle Fant and Helen Pringle. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Additional visitation will be held on Tuesday at the Titusville First Presbyterian Church from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at which time the funeral service will be conducted with Dr. Barry E. Cressman, pastor, and Pastor Mark Condo, grandson, officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family asks that memorials be made to the W.
