Obituary of Mary Lou Kookogey
Mary Lou Kookogey, 79, of 401 N. Washington St. Titusville, passed away Tuesday morning March 3, 2015 at her residence with family present.
Mary Lou was born on Sept. 9, 1935 in Titusville, a daughter of the late Russell and Mary Alice Ricke Platt. She was married to John S. Kookogey on June 18, 1955 in Titusville. He preceded her in death on June 15, 2011.
Mary Lou was a graduate of Colestock High School, class of 1953. She was a 1958 graduate of Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA where she earned her BA in English with a certification in teaching.
Mary Lou was a member of the Pleasantville Presbyterian Church where she had served for many years as deacon, elder, and clerk of session. She loved singing in the church choir and teaching Sunday school.
She volunteered many hours in the Titusville community including the Service League, Titusville Area Hospital Auxiliary, American Lung Association, and the United Way. She was also a Girl Scout leader for many years. She was a former member of the Allegheny Chorale and the Venango Choral Society.
Mary Lou was an avid traveler, reader and bird watcher. She enjoyed music, camping, summers at Chautauqua, and spending time with her family at the Outer Banks of North Carolina and Sanibel Island, FL.
She is survived by six children, Marcia Kookogey Stewart of Kane, Lisa Kookogey Thomson of Burlington, VT, Julie Kookogey of Ava, MO, John Kookogey and wife Barbara of Newnan, GA, Kevin Kookogey and wife Bonnie of Franklin, TN, and Kendall Kookogey Bono and husband Dallas of Watkinsville, GA; 19 grandchildren, Alan, Katelyn, Alyssa, and Jillian Stewart, Aileen, Erin, and Anna Thomson, Matthew, Kevin, and Maureen Kookogey, Chloe, Carmel, Rachel, Naomi, Wills, and Sophia Kookogey, and Chiara and Logan Bono; one great granddaughter, Thea Grace Stewart; two brothers, Richard Platt and wife Marilyn of Mentor, OH, and Michael Platt of Titusville; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Kyle Thomson; and two sisters, Betty Eileen Graff and Pennie Diane Platt.
No public calling hours will be observed.
A Service of Resurrection will be announced at a later date.
