Obituary of June J. Wakefield

Mrs. June J. Wakefield, 86, formerly of 716 W. Spruce St., Titusville died at 4:08 PM on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at Tanglewood Manor in Jamestown, NY. Mrs. Wakefield was born on July 26, 1923 at Hydetown to the late Frank Leslie and Florence McFadden Worden. She married Edward “Jack” Wakefield on Feb. 24, 1947 in Titusville. Mr. Wakefield preceded her in death on June 29, 1981. She was a graduate of Colestock High School, Titusville in 1941. She was the class Valedictorian. Mrs. Wakefield was formerly employed by the Charles Horn Silk Mill from 1943 to 1945, Cyclops Spec. Steel Corp. during World War II, and was last with GTE Sylvania for 20 years at the time of her retirement on June 1, 1986. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Robert Lee Green Detachment Marine Corp. League Auxiliary. Mrs. Wakefield loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and golfing. She is survived by four children, Randy Wakefield of Odenton, MD, Lynn Ellis and husband Jay of Henderson, NV, Tammy Peterson and husband Terry of Titusville, Lisa Lynde and husband Mark of Bemus Point, NY; four grandchildren, Jason Ellis and wife Lisa of Winston-Salem, NC, Stacy Ellis of Glen Burnie, MD, Megan Peterson of Ebensburg, Tyler Peterson and fiancé Shelby Owens of Titusville; five great grandchildren, Matthew Ellis, David Ellis, Zachary Ellis all of Winston-Salem, NC, Hannah Peterson and Gabriella Peterson of Titusville; two sisters, Bette DeForce of Erie and Charlotte Shouey of Titusville. Mrs. Wakefield was preceded in death by three sisters, Eileen Anderson, Shirley Ludwick, Barbara Matthews; and one nephew, Larry Smith. Friends will be received by the family at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville on Saturday, December 5th from 1 to 2 PM with a memorial service to follow conducted by Rev. William Blair pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment of ashes will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church 302 W.
