Obituary of Robert B. Hyde

Mr. Robert B. “Bob” Hyde, 97, of 413 E. Main St., Titusville passed away at 2:45 PM on Friday, April 10, 2015, at Country Acres Personal Care Home. He had been a resident there for the past 5 weeks. Mr. Hyde was born on April 2, 1918, in Titusville to the late Walter L. and Florence Loomis Hyde. He married Jean M. Preston on February 2, 1939 at the Methodist Parsonage in Titusville. Mrs. Hyde preceded him in death on December 15, 2000. He attended Titusville schools and earned his GED through St. Joseph’s Academy. Mr. Hyde was a veteran of World War II having served from 1943 to 1945 in the US Army. After being honorably discharged from the service Bob returned to Titusville and his job with Universal Cyclops Specialty Steel Corp. He worked there for 45 years as a heat treater. Mr. Hyde was a member of St. Walburga Church where he also served on the finance counsel. In addition he was a member of the Cyclops Quarter Century Club, Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW, Moose Club and former member of the Eagles Club and VFW scholarship committee. While living in Hydetown he served on the boro counsel. Bob with his carpenter ability had completely remodeled his home in Hydetown as well as his Main St. residence. He also enjoyed gardening. He is survived by his son, Kenneth Hyde and wife Doneva of Titusville; his daughter, Mina Cavanaugh and husband Edward of Mesa, AZ; 5 grandsons, Lon Hyde and Julie of Saegertown, Shawn Hyde and wife Susan of Guys Mills, Kelly Hyde and wife Sue of Saegertown, Andrew Hyde and wife Laura of Meadville, James Cavanaugh of Wadsworth, OH; 5 granddaughters, Regina Pilewski and husband Tim of McKean, Jill Meszaros and husband Dan of Cambridge Springs, Lisa Crago and husband David of Townville, Paige Solomon and husband David of Edinboro, Shannon Rojos and husband Carlos of Mesa, AZ; 36 great grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandson. Mr. Hyde was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Hyde and a sister, Elizabeth Wakefield. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and attend the funeral service from the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:00 AM with Fr. Walter E. Packard, pastor of the Catholic Community of Titusville, officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery with full military rites observed. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Crawford County 406 W. Elm St., Titusville, PA 16354.
