Obituary of Joseph F. Holley

Joseph F. Holley, 67, of Titusville, passed away bound for the eternal Bluegrass festival in the sky, early Wednesday April 29th 2015. He passed peacefully in his sleeping bag. Joseph was born Februrary 24th 1948 in Titusville, son of the late Betty Billig and Joseph Holley. He was a graduate of Titusville High School, class of 1967. Upon graduating high school he temporarily moved to Cleveland Ohio to attend the famous Lincoln Welding School where he graduated with flying colors. He worked as a welder for many years until he became disabled. He had been previously employed at the former Universal Cyclops Specialty Steel Corp. in Titusville. Those that knew “Pie” would describe him as being funny, polite and a genuinely down to Earth person. He was a true gentleman and scholar. He loved his family, had a healthy love of Bluegrass music, his fiddle and mandolin, as well as that high lonesome sound of his favorite musician, Bill Monroe. He will be sadly missed by many and will certainly always be remembered by those that loved him. He was a social member of the Cleo J. Ross Post #368 American Legion and of the Titusville PNA Club. He enjoyed reading and fishing. Joseph is survived by his only son, James Holley and wife Cara Holley of Browns Mills, NJ; a stepdaughter, Jessica Huth of Oil City; grandchildren, Kristen Huth, Alexis Moore, Ryan Joseph (Holley) Kinnear, Dewey Holley, and Samson Holley; great grandchildren, Sophia Braden and Aubrey Confer; sisters, Josephine Oyer and her companion Garry Nason of Pleasantville and Mary Smith and her husband Jim Smith of Guys Mills; a brother Steven Holley and wife Tammy of Meadville; nephews Bruce Bohr of Connecticut and Joseph Leithead of Centerville; nieces Sonnie Ray Oyer and her companion Jason Adams of Pleasantville, Fernie Oyer and her companion Kevin Hicks of Titusville, Emma Smith and husband Aaron Smith of Guys Mills, Mylina Warner and husband Tyler Warner of Pleasantville; nephews James Gilson Jr, Anthony Gilson, Jeremiah Adams, and Eli Adams all of Pleasantville, Guster “The Guillotine” Hicks of Titusville and many cousins from the area. In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by a stepfather, Thomas W. Billig of Centerville; a sister Barbara Leithead of Titusville; his beloved cousins Joseph Wishnok of Burgettstown, David “Rooster” Vroman of Titusville and many dearly loved aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. As per his wishes, no viewing hours or memorial services are planned. In lieu of flowers or donations the family suggests the best way to honor Pie is to remember who we are as a nation, and to defend the US Constitution as all Americans should. Pie was a humble man and wouldn’t want anyone spending money on flowers for his sake, just play some bluegrass every now and then….and simply smile, remember him and his warm heart.
