Obituary of Vivian R. Zook
Vivian R. Zook, 96, a longtime resident of Pleasantville and, until recently, of the Billie Brown Building, passed away peaceably but unexpectedly in her sleep Sunday, June 7, 2015 at Country Acres Personal Care Home in Titusville, Pa.
Vivian was born on December 8, 1918 at Wesleyville, Pa, a daughter of the late J. Harry and Mabel Decker Rodier.
She was a graduate of the Pleasantville High School, class of 1937, where she was active in sports and lettered four years on the varsity basketball team. She loved the Penn State University and was an avid fan of the Nittany Lions Football Team.
For over 25 years, Vivian had been employed by several former physicians including Dr. Anderson, Dr. Ingham and Dr. Culp. Dr. Ingham called her his “Girl Friday” because of all the responsibilities she was able to handle while managing the office and tending to his patients.
She attended the Presbyterian Church in Pleasantville but, after moving to Titusville, she attended the Bethel United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Pleasantville Senior Citizens, and for many years she enjoyed her volunteer work on the Escort Desk with the Titusville Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. Over her lifetime she was a multi-gallon blood donor to the American Red Cross.
Vivian is survived by a son, Stephen M. Zook, and wife Nancy of State College, Pa; three grandchildren, Michael Zook and wife Dayna, Daniel Zook and wife Beverly, and Amy Castor and husband Craig; three great grandchildren, Mitchell and Oleg Zook, and Caleb Castor; and several cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Dorothy.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Thursday, June 11, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The memorial service to be conducted by The Reverend Jerry Gray will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 12, at the funeral home. A luncheon for everyone in attendance will follow at The Hillhurst Bed and Breakfast, 518 North Perry Street, Titusville.
Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Centerville.
In lieu of flowers, it was Vivian’s wish that memorials be made to the Titusville Hospital Ladies Auxiliary or to the Salvation Army.
