Obituary of Wayne Quimby
Mr. Wayne Quimby, 83, of 431 N. Drake St. Titusville, died Saturday June 20, 2015 at 2:15 PM at his residence surrounded by his family.
He was born on October 16, 1931 in Buffalo, NY to the late Merle and Helena Buchanan Quimby. He married Helen Cartney on February 12, 1966 at St. Walburga Church.
Wayne was a graduate of Pine Hill High School class of 1950. He graduated from Allegheny College in 1959 with a degree in political science.
He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He served in the 6th Fleet aboard the USS Johnson DD821. He entered the service on May 23, 1951 in Buffalo, NY and was honorably discharged on May 24, 1955 at the U.S. Naval Station in Newport, RI.
Wayne worked at Skyline Industries in sales and then for Phillips Products and Oil Creek Plastics as a customer service supervisor. He worked for the last 30 years at Pyramid Industries as a Traffic Manager.
He was a member of St. Venantius Church and a former member of St. Walburga Parish where he sang with the choir, was a lecture and a eucharistic minister. He also helped with the various functions in the parish as well as serving on Parish Council.
Wayne was a three time P.E.R. of the Titusville Elks Lodge #264 and was a post member of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW. He lent his amazing voice to the special events of both organizations such as Memorial Day, Flag Day and Veteran’s Day.
He volunteered over 2300 hours driving for DAV, he received the Legion of Honor award from The Chapel of Four Chaplains, he volunteered for Meals on Wheels for over 20 years, he was on the former CAC Board, and was a lecture at Wesbury for the last 3 years. He also served on both the Planning Commission and the Zoning Board for the City of Titusville.
Wayne was an avid reader, and sang with the Venango Choral Society, and the Warren Chapter Barber Shop. He loved spending time with his friends and family.
He is survived by his wife Helen of Titusville; three children, David Quimby of Titusville, Ann Warner and husband Bryan of Titusville, and Beth Quimby of Los Angeles; four grandchildren, Nathaniel, Hayden, Meagan, and Grace Warner all of Titusville; three sisters, Jean Maiben, Phyliss Palmer, and Ruth Trist all of Los Angeles; three sisters in law, Jackie Quimby of Florida, Sue Slagle of Titusville, and Jane Sargent of Erie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to this parents Wayne was preceded in death by an infant son Daniel Quimby, a sister Annette Walsh, and a brother Judson Quimby.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home Inc. 303 N. Washington St. on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. A mass of Christian burial will be conducted at St. Walburga Church on Wednesday at 10:00 AM, with Fr. Matthew Ruyechan, officiating.
Interment is in St. Catherines Cemetery.
