Obituary of Reid G. Jackson
Reid G. Jackson, Sr., 88, formerly of Centerville, passed away Monday evening July 6, 2015 at Edinboro Manor where he had been a resident since July of 2010.
Reid was born on December 10, 1926 at Centerville, PA, a son of the late Leo and Beatrice Bidwell Jackson. He married Caroline M. Hartsell on May 10, 1943 in Titusville. She preceded him in death on October 23, 2006.
Reid attended the Titusville schools. He was a veteran having served in the US Army during World War II from 1945 until 1946. He served with the combat engineers in Germany during his enlistment.
Reid had been employed at the former Cyclops Specialty Steel Corp. for 38 years until his retirement in 1989. He had also worked for General Electric in Erie and Pennzoil in Oil City.
Reid was a life member of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW and of the Cytemp Quarter Century Club. He enjoyed hunting and gardening.
Reid is survived by four children, Regina Kay Clevenger and husband Herbert of Foot Hill Ranch, CA, Reid G. Jackson, Jr. and wife Tami of Townville, Judie A. Jackson of Aurora, CO, and John V. Jackson of Sacramento, CA; 11 grandchildren, Herbert Clevenger III, Karrie Clevenger, Eric R. Jackson, Sr., Shawnli Dunlevy, Dakota Dunlevy, Gina Baxter, Jennifer Elder, Jessica Terrazas, Kimberly Weber, Curtis Jackson, and Brandon Jackson; 13 great grandchildren; two brothers, Howard Jackson of Atlanta, GA, and Ronald F. Jackson and wife Karen of Florida; two sisters, Shirley Braizur of Delaware, and Janet Collins of West Palm Beach, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Norman, Harry, and Leo Jackson; and three sisters, Leta Friday, Elaine Busbee, and June Bailey.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM and attend the funeral service on Monday at 1:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church 302 W. Walnut St. Titusville with Rev. Lee Baker, associate pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Centerville with full military rites.
