Obituary of Russell B. Vosburgh
Russell B. Vosburgh, 89, of 13020 State Highway 8 North Hydetown, died Saturday morning November 28, 2009 at Southwoods Assisted Living Community in Titusville where he had been a resident since March of 2009.
Mr. Vosburgh was born on March 4, 1920 in Titusville, a son of the late Clyde and Mildred Brant Vosburgh. He was married to Martha Fitch on June 24, 1943 at the Methodist parsonage in Fredonia, PA. She preceded him in death on May 17, 1995.
He was a graduate of Colestock High School.
Mr. Vosburgh was a partner with his three brothers and sister in the operation of the former Vosburgh Farm. They raised beef cattle and eventually began a milk processing plant. The farm grew to over 900 acres as more land was acquired over the years.
Mr. Vosburgh was a life member of the Bethel United Methodist Church where he was choir director for 20 years. He served as Adult Sunday School teacher as well as serving on the Finance Committee, Chairman of the Administration Board, Methodist Men’s Brotherhood, and Building Renovation Committees.
Mr. Vosburgh was a former director with the Chamber of Commerce; vice president of the Titusville School Board of which he served on for 22 years; and a member of the Titusville School Building Authority.
He was a member of the PA Farmers Association State Board; past president of the Crawford County Farmers Association, Agricultural Extension. He served on the Crawford County Fair Board for 31 years. He received the award for Outstanding Conservation Farmer in 1987. He was host for many farm tours.
He also was a board member and vice president of the Executive Committee of the Crawford County Republican Committee for a number of years. He served on the local and state Congressional Campaign Committees; and Oil Creek Township Committee. He was a sustaining member of the National, State and County Republican Committees.
Mr. Vosburgh is survived by four children, Susan Faulkner and her husband John of North Lima, OH, Ann Kaufman and her husband Bruce of St. Louis, MO, Robert W. Vosburgh and his wife Jocelyn of San Jose, CA, and Curtis P. Vosburgh and his wife Deanna of Union City; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, Richard and Ronald Vosburgh; and a sister, Virginia Simpson.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and attend the funeral service on Friday at 11:00 AM at the Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Gray, pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in Union Cemetery.
