Obituary of Lloyd J. Rumbaugh
Mr. Lloyd J. “Pete” Rumbaugh, 90, formerly of Tionesta passed away Tuesday evening September 1, 2015, at Country Acres Personal Care Home.
Mr. Rumbaugh was born on September 23, 1924, in Pleasantville to the late Lloyd W. and Blanche E. Tarr Rumbaugh. He married Geraldine “Peaches” Mealy in 1959. Mrs. Rumbaugh preceded him in death in December of 2012.
He was a graduate of Pleasantville High School, class of 1942.
Pete was a veteran of the US Army having served in World War II. He entered the service on May 25, 1943, at New Cumberland and was assigned to the 278th Battalion. His battles and campaigns included, Go 33 & 40 WD 45, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded several decorations and citations and honorably discharged on February 10, 1946, with the rank of Private First Class.
After returning home Pete was employed by Harbison Barrel Yard in Buffalo for 10 years. He then returned to the area and worked in the finishing department at Universal Cyclops Specialty Steel Corp until his retirement. During the 60’s and 70’s he helped run Peaches Restaurant on RT. 36 with his wife.
Mr. Rumbaugh was a lifetime member of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW, a member of the Cleo J. Ross Post 368 American Legion, the Fryburg Sportsman’s Club and former member of the B.P.O Elks #264.
Pete was known for his love of rot rod cars and driving them fast.
He is survived by a step-son, Dale Armagost and wife Jackie of Tionesta; a step-daughter, Donna Graham and husband Robert of Lickingville; a sister, Nancy Bromley and husband Earl of Pleasantville; and several step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Pete was preceded in death by a step-son, Robert Armagost; a step-father, John Karris; and 2 sisters, Gladys Harbison and Barbara Beane.
Friends may call at the Hennes-Garrett Funeral Home 203 E. Main St., Titusville on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and attended the funeral service from the funeral home on Saturday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dr. Barry E. Cressman, officiating.
Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Pleasantville.
