Obituary of Marie E. Benedict
Mrs. Marie E. Benedict, 93, of 41653 Thompson Run Rd. Titusville, died Friday September 4, 2015 at 2:42 PM the Meadville Medical Center.
Marie was a very special woman and will be dearly missed by her friends and family.
Marie was born on April 3, 1922 in Hydetown to the late Charles and Neva Magee Tubbs. She married the love of her life, David M. Benedict on October 26, 1943 in Titusville and was a typical wartime bride - waiting at home for her husband to return. He preceded her in death on November 5, 1999.
Marie was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy. She worked as a secretary for many years at the former GTE Sylvania, retiring in 1984. Marie was a member of St. Titus Church where she served two terms on the Parish Council as secretary. She was also a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Marie enjoyed baking and donating for various church functions, including Santa’s Workshop. She also loved to volunteer her time for the Toy Shop; making wooden toys for needy children. She was the Hydetown Borough secretary for over 30 years and was also the local girls’ 4H group leader for many years.
In her younger days, Marie enjoyed camping, knitting, crocheting, playing cards, as well as boating and fishing at Lake Chautauqua where she, Dave and their family spent their summers. After retiring, she and Dave enjoyed many winters in Leesburg, Florida, where she was an accomplished shuffleboard player and was state ranked. Her life always revolved around her family and she could be seen at many sporting events, watching her grand and great grandchildren’s activities.
She is survived by her four children, Patricia Moody and husband John of Centerville, Charles Benedict and wife Ruth of Franklin, William Benedict and wife Barbara of Edinboro, and Mary and husband Darral of Hydetown; the following grandchildren: Karina Moody Nellis, Jon Moody, Aaron Baldwin, Andy Baldwin, Jeff Baldwin, Robert Baldwin, Brock Benedict, Brooke Benedict Hoffman, Melissa McEwen Miller, Matthew McEwen and Marsha McEwen Cassell; 22 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Kenneth R. Tubbs and her daughter Margaret “Peg” McEwen.
