Obituary of Marjorie A. Caldwell

Marjorie Ann “Midge” Anderson Caldwell passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at her home on the Turkey Farm Road. She had been in declining health for many years. Born at home on March 1, 1934 in Mars, PA, Midge was the eldest daughter and second eldest child of Joseph Douthett Anderson and Cora Cooper Anderson. Joe and Cora moved their family of six children away from “growing” Mars to “safer”, Titusville in 1947. Beginning her education at the one room school, PS 5, Kennedy Road, Mars, Midge graduated from Titusville High School in 1952, where she was a majorette. On December 26, 1952 she married Nophia Ray “Faye” Caldwell in Ripley, NY. The couple briefly lived in Fort Hood, TX returning to Titusville after Faye was discharged from the Army. They eventually built their home up the road from Joe and Cora, where three of her siblings also built their homes, an area jokingly called “Andersonville”. During the late 1960’s, Midge was the leader of the drill team, the Drake Drillers. In the early 1970’s, she raced snow mobiles and was third in the State of Pennsylvania. For many years, she and Faye were avid dirt track fans and were fixtures at Tri-City Speedway and Lernerville, where they enjoyed watching the Sprints. They were fans of Brad Doty. Faye passed away on January 1, 1991. Over the years, Midge worked as a waitress, census taker and delinquent tax collector, but her favorite job was at Oil Creek Campground, where she worked in the store for fifteen years. She would talk of counting out gummy worms for children who came in with twenty-five or fifty cents to buy penny candy. She enjoyed watching those same children grow into teenagers. Midge enjoyed bird watching, reading, traveling in the United States, and the history of her ancestors and had enjoyed hunting arrow heads. She particularly enjoyed trips to the Mars area to reminisce. It was a well-known fact one did not call to talk during Judge Judy or during a Steelers game. Family and friends have called her “ornery” and “feisty”, but like her mother before her, Midge was a good cook and her German Chocolate Cakes and Plum Pies will be missed at many family reunions to come. Her consistent companion, Missy, her Boston Terrier will be lost without her. Surviving are her son, Gary and grandson Nathan, who resided with her. Also, her daughter, Paula Warner and husband, Jim of Union City, granddaughter, Corinne Cardy and her boyfriend, Jeff Schweickert of Erie, her grandson, Brian Reynolds and his fiancée, Ashley Foltz and her son, Kayden of Pleasantville. She is survived by her sisters Gwen Grinstead and husband, Bill of Rocky Grove, Karen Skinner and husband, Dick of Titusville and Velma Koebley and husband, Don of Warren, along with her sister-in-law, Virginia “Ginny” Kerr, Loretta Caldwell and Kaby Drake and her husband, Kirt all of Titusville. Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, their children and grandchildren also survive. Preceding her in passing were her husband, Faye, her parents, her brother, J.D. “Joe” Anderson, sister Kay Warner and husband Keith Warner, great nephew, TJ Bauer, her brothers-in-law Donnie Caldwell, and Harry Caldwell and his wife, Marie. Midge’s last days were made more comfortable with the loving care administered to her by Diana Wise, who was more than her caretaker. For this, the Family is extremely grateful. Midge and Diana bonded years ago and Midge thought of Diana as a daughter. No calling hours will be observed. A memorial service will be conducted by the family at a later date. Inurnment will be at Jamison Corners Cemetery. In lieu of arrangements, the Family suggests donations to the Cherrytree Volunteer Fire Department, Cherrytree Rd, Titusville, PA, where her father was a founding member, or the Mars Area History & Landmark Society, 1 Brickyard Road, Mars, PA 16046.
