Obituary of Robert Arthur Roof
Mr. Robert Arthur Roof, 88, of Mystic Park Road, Titusville, passed away on October 8, 2015, at his daughter’s home in Canal Fulton, Ohio.
Mr. Roof was born in Titusville on March 7, 1927, to the late Arthur Roof and Clara Bue Roof Bennett. He married Norma McGinnis on March 25, 1950, in North East. Mrs. Roof preceded him in death on February 17, 2015.
He was a graduate of Colestock High School.
Mr. Roof served in the US Navy/ Coast Guard from July 23, 1943, until his honorable discharge on May 13, 1946, with the rank of Seaman First Class. He then enlisted with the US Army on Sept. 4, 1946, and was assigned to the First Calvary Division where he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal Japan. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal on June 14, 1949.
Robert was formerly employed by the Titusville Herald and retired from Quaker State Corp. in the early 90’s where he worked as a driller.
Mr. Roof was a member of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW, Cleo J. Ross Post 368 American Legion, and a former member of the Hydetown Volunteer Fire Department.
He enjoyed reading, bowling, golfing, attending family gatherings, and traveling, and camping with his wife.
Mr. Roof is survived by a daughter, Cathy Rae Heighley of Canal Fulton, OH; a son, Larry Roof of Hydetown; three grandchildren, Beth Heighley and companion Adam Hoch of Canal Fulton, OH, Jason Heighley of Canal Fulton, OH, and Jacob Roof and his wife Kathy of Titusville; a great grandson, Seth Roof of Titusville; and a brother, Howard Bennett of Hydetown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son, Robert Roof, and a brother, Larry Roof.
A private memorial service is being conducted for the family at the Hennes-Garrett Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Sterling, officiating.
Inurnment will be in Kerr Hill Cemetery.
