Obituary of Maxine Mae Billig

Mrs. Maxine Mae Billig, 91, of Titusville, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Golden Living Center in Titusville. She was born in Tidioute on September 4, 1924 to the late Charles and Helen Swanson Downey. Maxine was a graduate of Colestock High School. She married Gerald T. Billig on March 5, 1944. Mr. Billig preceded her in death on March 25, 2009. She enjoyed crocheting, crafting, bowling, gardening, being outdoors, playing games with grandchildren, playing cards, spending time with family and friends, and baking cookies for which she was known as the “cookie grandma”. She was a member of Professional Women’s Club of Titusville, St. James Altar Guild, and Titusville Area Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. Maxine is survived by her daughter Sharen Romaniszyn and husband Neil of Titusville; sons Douglas Billig and his wife Gail of Titusville, Bruce Billig of Titusville, Darryl Billig and his wife Debbie of Titusville, and Dennis Billig of Abilene, Texas; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; a sister Shirley Wright and brother Duane Downey and wife Barb both of Grand Valley; and several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a son Ronald Billig and a sister Eileen Armstrong. Friends and family may attend a memorial service on Saturday, November 14, 2015, at 11 A.M. at St. James Episcopal Church officiated by Rev. Canon Martha Ishman. Inurnment will be at Triumph Swedish Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Titusville Area Hospital Ladies Auxiliary at 406 W. Oak St., Titusville, PA 16354 and St. James Episcopal Church at 112 E. Main St., Titusville, PA 16354.
