Obituary of Elizabeth A. Kurschinske

Elizabeth A. “Betty” Kurschinske, 91, of Titusville, passed away Wednesday evening October 28, 2015 at the Titusville Area Hospital. Betty was born on April 1, 1924 in Oil City, a daughter of the late George and Anna Mae Schrum Porter. She was married to Leslie C. Kurschinske on April 19, 1951at Grace United Methodist Church in Oil City. She was a graduate of Cranberry High School. Her working career began with trimming windows at the former Woolworth store in Oil City. She then worked as a switchboard operator for General Telephone Co. and later Bell Telephone in Oil City. Once her children were in school, she returned to work at G.C. Murphy Co. in Titusville, later working at Phillips Products at what she did best, switchboard operator and receptionist. After the relocation of Phillips Products in 1975, she began work at Conair, Inc. in Franklin and retired after 13 years there in 1989. Betty had attended the Titusville First United Methodist Church. She had also attended the former Kerr Hill Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school. Betty was a member of the Titusville Business and Professional Women for 35 years. She was awarded “Woman of the Year” in 1993 as well as the Volunteer Award in 1994. She was a member of the Titusville Lioness Club and Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Betty enjoyed life, taking care of her family, flower gardening, playing cards, cooking, and was an avid reader. Betty is survived by three children, Elaine Carol Dozois and husband Henry of Lowell, MA, David Bruce Kurschinske and wife Jenny of Titusville, and Susan Kay Wyant and husband John of Cypress, TX; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert “Bob” Porter and Paul Porter; and two sisters, Sylvia “Pat” Ferrante and Mary Lou Farling. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM and attend the funeral service there on Monday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Edward Gresick, pastor of the Titusville First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Kerr Hill Cemetery. The family asks that memorials be made to the Titusville Lioness Club or to Benson Memorial Library. FLOWERS
