Obituary of George G. Bush
Mr. George G. “Gil” Bush, 88 years young, Pittsfield died Sunday afternoon November 15, 2015, at St. Vincent Health Center in Erie after a brief illness.
Mr. Bush was born on August 1, 1927, in Erie to the late Harry C., Sr. and Cleo Mennecke Bush.
He graduated from Harbor Creek High School.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during World War II. He entered the service on Aug. 3, 1944, at Erie and was honorably discharged on Aug. 31, 1945, in CA with the rank of Seaman First Class. During which he served aboard the Attack Transport the Dorthea L. Dix assigned to the Pacific Theater.
Gil returned home and was employed as a pipefitter for 31 years with General Electric in Erie.
He was a member of the Bay City Gun Club in Waterford, Brokenstraw Rod and Gun Club in Pittsfield, Lakewood Rod and Gun Club in Sugar Grove, NY, VFW Post 8803 in Tidioute, AMVETS Post 50 in Sugar Grove, and the American Legion Post in Youngsville.
Gil enjoyed trap and pistol shooting, hunting, fishing and reading.
He is survived by a son, Mark Bush of Erie; two daughters, Kathryn (Tom) Acri of Erie, Denise (Gene) Dreyfus of Fairview; four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, two brothers, Robert (Judy) Bush of Elgin, James (Lynne) Bush of Erie; a daughter in law, Eileen Bush; a good friend, Jackie Pierce and her family of Pittsfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bush was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-three years, Dolores M. Yeager Bush; a son, Timothy Bush; a sister, Jean Harrington; and three brothers, Elmer, Harry Jr., and Walter Bush.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home, 303 N. Washington Street, Titusville, PA 16354, on Wednesday, November 18 from 1 to 3 PM, with a service to follow.
Interment will be in Sanford Cemetery, Warren County.
