Obituary of Carl R. Proper
Mr. Carl R. Proper, Sr., 77, of 197 Meadville Rd., Titusville died at 12:10 AM on Sunday, December 27, 2009 at the Titusville Area Hospital.
Mr. Proper was a loving dad and papa who was born on March 4, 1932 at Black Ash to the late Burdette and Grace Viola Foster Proper. He married Sally J. Hicks on September 27, 1958. She preceded him in death on August 5, 2007.
He served in the US Army.
Mr. Proper owned and operated his dairy farm for 47 years. Prior to that, he worked at Cyclops Specialty Steel Corp. and for Hasbrouck’s Sand and Gravel. He most recently was a part time bus driver.
He was a member of the Chapmanville Community Church.
Mr. Proper enjoyed hauling cattle, as well as, showing them at the local fairs. He also participated in turkey shoots, bowled and played shuffleboard.
He is survived by four children, Tina M Proper and her fiancé Mike DeWitt of Chapmanville, Carl R. Proper Jr. and his wife Amy of Chapmanville, Kelly S. Kibbe and her husband Mike of Findley Lake, NY, Kimberly A. Weldon and her husband Barry of Chapmanville; five grandchildren, Sarah Stokes of Titusville, Kevin Proper of Daytona, FL, Haley Kibbe of Findley Lake, NY, Travis Proper and Kyle Weldon of Chapmanville; two step-grandchildren, Libby Weldon and Chaz Weldon of Philadelphia; two great-grandchildren, Keegan Proper and Kalleigh Stokes; a sister, Joyce Martin and her husband David of Selma, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Proper was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Funeral services will be conducted from the Chapmanville Community Church on Wednesday at 11:00 AM with Pastor Glen Van Cise, officiating.
Interment will be in Chapmanville Cemetery.
