Obituary of Edward L. "Putt" Thompson
Edward “Putt” L. Thompson went to be with the Lord, September 12, 2017 at the age of 62.
Putt is survived by his wife, Candace “Candy” Thomas Thompson; son, Ryan Thompson and his wife Alyson; mother, Patricia Hollabaugh Thompson; brother, Jay Thompson; sister-in-law, Tammy Walters; brother-in-law, Benjamin Walters; grandchildren, Brayden and Brinley Thompson; niece, Tricia Thompson Meinert and husband John; nephews, Jacob Walters and wife Miranda, Adam Walters and fiancé Trista Simmers; great nephew, Oliver; great nieces, Jelyn, Jaleece, Jacey; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Thompson; infant brother, Gregory Michael Thompson; grandmother, Elizabeth Hollabaugh; grandfather, Burton Hollabaugh.
Putt was born in Titusville on July 8, 1955 to Patricia Hollabaugh Thompson and Edward L. Thompson. He graduated from Titusville High School in 1974. On September 16, 1977 he married Candy, his high school sweetheart. On June 17, 1981 he welcomed his son, Ryan who was one of the most important parts of his life.
Putt was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. Anyone who knew him, knew of his love of the outdoors, fishing and hunting. One of his passions was turkey hunting and calling. He participated in many professional turkey calling competitions starting in 1992. He placed in the Masters and earned second in the US Open in 1994 and sixth in 1995. He placed second in the 1996 Turkey Calling World Championship held in Mobile, Alabama. He won two first place trophies at the Pennsylvania State Calling Championship, held June 8, 1996 in Harrisburg. He earned two Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, The House of Representatives Citations in 1996 for his exemplary achievements in his professional turkey calling career presented to him by State Rep. Teresa Brown.
Putt was a selfless person, always there to lend a hand when needed. He adored his grandkids, Brayden and Brinley. He loved spending time with his wife, Candy photographing wildlife; with a recent vacation to Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Teton Mountains for their fortieth wedding anniversary.
He worked for the city of Titusville in the streets department since 1990. He loved his job at the city. He took pride in knowing he was a part of the city’s work force. Many people over the years acknowledged him on the street with a “toot” of the horn to say, “Good job, well done!”
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at the Titusville Free Methodist Church, 42490 PA-27, Titusville, PA 16354 at 11 AM, with Pastor Timothy Maybray officiating, a visitation hour will be from 10 to 11 AM.
