Obituary of Mildred "Millie" Eddy
A helping hand and loving heart were paramount in the life of Mildred Lois Prichard Eddy. On February 3 Mildred passed from this world while being cared for by her loving family.
Mildred was born in Kaneville on August 15, 1920. When only a few months old, she was transported by horse and wagon to her parents’ new farm in Diamond. As the daughter of Dallas and Myrtle Prichard, she grew up on her parents’ farm and attended the local one room school where she excelled. Because of her love for learning, she was able to skip a grade and graduate from Titusville High School in 1938.
In March of 1939 she was wed to William Allen Eddy in her parents’ home. Together they raised 4 children-Robert, Katherine (Kay), Marsha, and Linda. From this union their family expanded to include 16 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and 6 great great-grandchildren.
During WWII while her husband was stationed abroad, Mildred worked for the war effort by supervising the making of bomb casings. Later she was employed by Sylvania for 31 years.
Mildred loved her family and that love enveloped anyone who came into her home. She could whip up a meal for an army in no time. If someone needed something she had, it was soon in their hands. The Golden Rule was the guide for how she conducted her life. Her concern and love expanded beyond her nuclear family to include nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and strangers.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband just before their 66th anniversary in 2005. Her five brothers (Charles, Howard, Lloyd, Kenneth, and Clarence) and three sisters (Bernice, Florence, and Janette) have preceded her. Two grandchildren, Patrick Eddy and Jeffery Davitt, and one great great-grandchild, Ryland Davitt also preceded her.
She is survived by her children, Robert (Roberta) Eddy of Creekside, PA., Katherine (Robert) Davitt of Titusville, Marsha (David) Edwards of Lansdale, PA., and Linda (David) Holquist of Naperville, IL.
Because Mildred had always wanted to become a nurse but didn’t have the opportunity, a nursing scholarship is going to be established in her name for Titusville High School graduates for those with the same desire. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to this scholarship or make a contribution in her name to a charity that helps others. Mildred would have wanted it that way.
A memorial service will be held at Titusville First Presbyterian Church, 216 N. Franklin St., Titusville, PA 16354, on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 11 AM.
Inurnment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
