Obituary of Roland R. "Rollie" Sutton

Mr. Roland R. “Rollie” Sutton, 75, of Grand Valley, passed away on Friday, December 14, 2018 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

He was born in Titusville on August 17, 1943 to the late Merle B. and Sylvia I. Dey Sutton.  He was the paternal grandson of Daniel D. and Mamie Britton Sutton and the maternal grandson of LeVurn L. and Mary E. Bartch Dey.

Rollie married Linda L. Vogan on April 28, 1962 in Girard, Erie County.

He graduated from Titusville Colestock High School, class of 1962. 

Rollie worked at Wolf’s Head of Reno, Warren State Hospital in Warren, and GTE Sylvania in Pleasantville.  He worked for twenty-nine years at Cyclops Steel.  He first worked in the etch room as an inspector and then he became a certified inspector in the sonic department.  After Cyclops Steel’s closing, he worked for Burns Security. 

He was a proud member of the Sons of the Revolution, Cleo J. Ross American Legion Post 368, and the Bruce Shorts VFW Post 5958.

Rollie enjoyed his family and friends, and will be remembered by them for his quick wit and great sense of humor.  He was very fond of horses, especially in his younger years.  He enjoyed his beagle dogs and hunting rabbits with them.  He was an avid reader, and liked to hunt and fish.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Linda of Grand Valley; and their five children, Tina Snyder and her companion James Lona of Big Bear, CA, Kimberly Wright and husband Russell of Centerville, Kelly Brown and husband Lane of Pleasantville, Rollie Sutton and companion Genny Cohen of Titusville, and Julie Wolfkiel of Titusville; twenty grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and a brother, Larry M. Sutton of Warren.

Friends and family may call at the Hennes-Garrett Funeral Home, 203 E. Main St., Titusville, PA 16354, on Thursday, December 20 from 6 to 8 PM, and a funeral service there on Friday, December 21 at 11 AM, co-officated by Rev. Chuck Riel of Pleasantville Free Methodist Church and Rev. Timothy Maybray of the Titusville Free Methodist Church.

Inurnment will be in Union Cemetery.

Grand Valley, PA 16420.  The family would like to thank the Grand Valley ambulance service and UPMC Presbyterian Hospital for the care that was given to Rollie.
